Wachovia Gives $25k to Campaign

December 13, 2007

Asheboro, NC – Hospice of Randolph County announced today that Wachovia Bank has pledged $25,000 towards the “Imagine a Home” capital campaign. The contribution adds considerable momentum towards reaching the hospice organization’s $1,550,000 campaign goal to build a local hospice in-patient facility.

“We are thrilled that Wachovia has invested in the lives of those in need,” shared Rhonda L. Burch, MA, MBA, Hospice of Randolph County’s President/CEO. “This is an investment that will bring great returns to the lives of the hospice patients we serve in Randolph County and surrounding areas.”

Mr. Jim Foster, Wachovia’s Market President, commented on the contribution, "Hospice of Randolph does so much for so many in Randolph County and we are glad we can help and support such a great cause”. Foster also serves as chair of the Leadership Gifts Committee on Hospice of Randolph County’s capital campaign board, a cabinet of local community leaders and citizens.

To-date, approximately 82%, or $1,278,000, of the campaign goal has been raised. The additional funds will come through the support of businesses, foundations and local residents.

“We are almost there,” added Bob Mason, a local elder law attorney who is serving as general chairman for the campaign. “Although foundations and businesses have contributed large amounts, support from local individuals is vital. A gift of $25, $50, $100 or more can go a long way in helping us reach our goal. We encourage individuals who see the need and value in hospice care to join us in reaching the final portion of our goal."

The future 10-bed hospice home facility will be designed to accommodate patients who are nearing the end-of-life and have special needs that can no longer be managed at their home. The facility will feature amenities such as: spacious patient rooms, private bathrooms, large family rooms, children’s play areas, common kitchens, formal dining, a chapel, gardens and much more.

The design of the hospice facility will center on creating a ‘home-like’ environment in which patients and families will be comfortable while simultaneously receiving highly-skilled inpatient care and support.

Designs for the building are in the final stages of development. Officials plan to break-ground in late spring or early summer of 2008 once the capital campaign goal has been achieved. The facility will be constructed beside the organization’s current administrative office facility, located only a quarter-mile from Interstate 73/74 (Highway 220). The construction process will take approximately 12 months to complete. The total budget for the project is slightly over $3,000,000. Additional funds will be secured through financing and reserves.

Serving as Honorary Co-Chairs for the campaign are NASCAR legend Richard Petty and his wife Lynda.
