After more than 40 years of dedicated service in healthcare, Susan Cox, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Hospice of the Piedmont, has announced her retirement, effective June 30. Her retirement marks the culmination of over 20 years in hospice leadership, including a 15-year tenure with Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (now AuthoraCare Collective) and, most recently, eight years with Hospice of the Piedmont.

Cox has held both state and national industry leadership positions including time as board president of both the National Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association and the national board of the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.  Locally, Cox served on boards for the Adult Center for Enrichment and the Well-Spring Group.

“I’m proud to have been part of an organization like Hospice of the Piedmont,” says Cox. “Its culture of empowerment and commitment to growth allowed me to contribute to something greater than myself. It’s an honor to conclude my career here.”

In retirement, Cox plans to spend time traveling and has plans to give back through community volunteerism.

With Cox’s retirement, Hospice of the Piedmont has named her successor, Beth Taylor, who will assume the role of Chief Clinical Officer on July 1. Taylor has served as Vice President of Quality and Compliance since the organization’s 2019 merger with Hospice of Randolph County, where she held a similar leadership role.

Prior to her work in hospice, Taylor was the Regional Manager of Clinical Operations for BAYADA Home Health Care, a large national home healthcare provider. At Bayada, Taylor led multi-site teams of clinical managers across a three-state region. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Hospice of the Piedmont’s CEO Trent Cockerham said of the announcement, “Susan’s contributions to our organization have been invaluable. From helping facilitate a successful merger of Hospice of the Piedmont and Hospice of Randolph County in 2019 to her work cultivating leaders from within our own organization, Susan’s legacy will be felt for many decades to come.”
