The E-Series: Self-Care for Caregivers

In this episode, Trent Cockerham, CEO of Hospice of the Piedmont, is joined by Misty Mize, Medical Social Worker at the Randolph Hospice House, one of Hospice of the Piedmont’s two inpatient hospice facilities. Throughout Misty’s many years as a social worker, she has guided families through difficult conversations and served as an advocate for caregivers in both the hospital and hospice settings. Together, Trent and Misty discuss how caregiving is a symbiotic relationship between the caregiver and care receiver, the importance of viewing self-care as essential instead of optional for those in the caregiving role, and the impact on the caregiver when self-care is not made a priority.
